Week #22 - Thank Goodness for Snail Mail...

Yo!

First off, glad you got my letter. Three weeks was pretty quick actually, faster than I thought it was gonna be.  Last week we got a fun surprise letter in the mail – it was such a blessing to read Cody’s testimony and hear him share his love for the Lord and his family.  He also sent us $36 in Jamaican money – so cool, but wouldn’t even buy a postage stamp here in the states!  Here are a few excerpts from his letter:

"I just want you guys to know what kind of great examples you are to me.  I was able to grow up relying on your testimonies until I finally was able to figure all this stuff out for myself and gain my own personal witness that this church is the true and living church on the earth today.  Thanks for helping me “not fizzle out” as Grandma Briggs puts it.  Speaking of that, I look at that book that you made for me probably once a week; not because I’m homesick or anything, just because it’s cool to see how freaking awesome my family is.  Not very many people have that blessing out here – in fact, it is very rare to find a family with a married father and mother and all kids belonging to those two people.  I’m starting to ramble now, but just know that you guys were and are and will forever be my role models.  I miss you all like crazy, but you and my crazy awesome sisters are my heroes and my motivation to keep working my butt off every day.

President Brown said something in Zone Conference that stuck with me.  He said, “Do this work like your life depends on it.”  It’s short and simple but really profound.  It’s pretty true, too.  My life really does depend on this work.  I’m doing everything I can to make sure I have no regrets out here, just like Dad reminds me each week.

Elder Kuehn, Elder Stewart and I are best buds now… we have a lot of plans for the future like starting a motorcycle gang and going on road trips, opening up some shops in Rexburg and some other stuff.  We’re going to get rich together and have an Idaho version of Duck Dynasty, or we could start a TV series called Hubert and Gerald, because Elder Stewart’s grandpa and mine sound like the same person, so get ready.”

Yeah, he’s a ding-a-ling, but we sure love him!!

Anyway, I don't have too much time today, we went on a little trip to Kingston with the ZL's, just following them around on some errands. But Spanish Town is great so far!

I'm having a hard time remembering too many specific things that happened, but just know that Elder Jackson and I are getting some work done out here!

Last week at church, a member came up to me and told me about a lady she had been taking to church the last couple weeks, and told us to go see her and teach her. When we went, the lady was way enthusiastic about the gospel. We just need to help her become a little more 'doctrinally sound' and, if all goes well, she could be baptized in August! She is actually going in for some sort of cancer treatment tomorrow, but I don't think it is too big of a deal.

The work in Spanish Town is developing still, but it is great! We have a lot to do, but as we continue to work, the Lord's going to bless us!

That's all for this week!

Love,

Elder Graham

Week #21 - No Bulls Running in This Spanish Town

Wagwan Fam,

This week has been absolutely crazy. Tons of stuff happened.

Tuesday was my birthday, and the first part of the day was kind of boring because we were stuck in the house while the countertop guys came back. The evening was a lot more eventful. I had given Tamara soooooo much crap for making me pose for pictures with her, but she got me back the night before I left...HARD.  I'll explain:

So in Jamaica there is this tradition when it’s your birthday that you get "floured" which literally means someone sneaks up on you and throws a bucket of flour on you.  Well, Tamara secretly brought some flour and Elder Stewart destroyed me haha (please let there be video of this!!!) but I was a pretty good sport about it. I had flour in my eye for like three days after that haha.  It was a way fun birthday though and a great ending to Yallahs!

This week I tried guinep and it is way good! It tastes like jello and bubble gum if those two things were ever mixed together. That's the best way I can describe it.

Wednesday was transfer day. Kinda crazy, but Spanish Town is great. We are teaching ALOT of people here so I'm happy about that. My companion, Elder Jackson and I live with our zone leaders, Elders Biddulph and Havili - they’re all great!  And Elder Palmer (MTC bud) is in my district so I’m stoked about that.  Our house is in a place called Willowdene - my area is actually called Spain-Willowdene.  It’s quite a bit smaller than St Thomas (the parish Yallahs is in), but there are also way more people packed into it. There's just a ton of housing schemes here so it will be better for finding people to teach.

Saturday was obviously the 4th of July. Although we didn't do anything to celebrate, I definitely had little fireworks going off in my heart. Jah Bless America.

Sunday was great. The Spanish Town chapel has A/C so that is super awesome. Members in the Spanish Town 2nd Ward are great too. After Sacrament Meeting, a lady just walked up to us and told us about her aunt that she has brought to church a couple times and referred us to her. The members here want to work so I'm excited to work alongside them.

I'm putting an extra effort to just work my tail off in this area. Now that I have a little more knowledge about what I'm doing (I'll probably never know what I'm doing but I'm working on it) I want to just hit the ground running here.

Crazy that it has already been basically five months?! I love every minute out here! Love and miss everyone as always! Talk to you next week!

Love,

Elder Graham

PS: Soon I’ll get some pictures for you of Spain!
